He had the opportunity to manage the social media of Pearland Coffee Roasters (a local coffee shop) from 2018 to early 2020, which gave him experience in photo, design, and video. He returned to school in 2019, attending The University of Houston: Clear Lake in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in design and video production.
Artist Statement
Curiosity as common as it can be is my drive. What does a piece look like with one of its features dialed to 11? What if a portion of a project is done in an amateurish fashion while the rest is polished? When curiosity joins play, unlimited options are at my disposal. The journey towards finding an interesting angle or take on a medium or premise is my process. Part of my fun in art is problem solving, finding out that the initial idea isn’t even feasible is often an addition, rather than a subtraction.
This fashion of finding an idea I love and using that as my fuel leads to an amalgamation of mediums, practices, and material that is indispensable as both a final result and even simply as a thought to never be revisited. The time I spend formulating plans for pieces is never wasted, even if those ideas are never fully realized or executed. I love the experience of experience, and in the practice of making art in any media that experience is especially rewarding.
This experimentation and gathering of experience can take place in many formats ranging from the mundane to the extreme with each rung in between being equally rewarding and fulfilling. Simply so because in the end I get to partake in the challenge of adding together my cumulative experiences. Even more rewarding is when I revisit a previous work and get to reflect on the positions I once had or see what I still find interesting.
In some ways looking at my previous work seems like looking at another person’s, and I get to experience the revelation once again. In other words, I enjoy the thought process of art and how that translates to actual work. The curiosity of what I could be capable of is my drive.
